Job Title: Transport Officer

Location: Ealing, West London (2 days office / 3 days remote once trained)

Hourly rate £22.02 PAYE / £29.30 Umbrella

Contract Length: 3-month contract (possibility of extension)

Working Pattern: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 35 hours

ASAP Start

As a Transport Officer, you will lead a team of Passenger Assistants and oversee the safe transport of children and vulnerable adults to school and essential services. This is a pivotal operational role responsible for:

Managing day‑to‑day delivery of travel assistance services
Leading and developing Passenger Assistants (approx. 25 direct reports)
Overseeing a large, diverse caseload of service users
Coordinating with commissioned transport providers
Producing route risk assessments, travel schedules and operational documentation
Ensuring excellent customer service to families, schools, and partners
Driving continuous improvement, efficiency, and value for money
Upholding safeguarding and compliance standards at all times

Key Requirement

You must have a sound understanding and practical application of home‑to‑school transport policies.

We are specifically looking for someone with demonstrable experience applying local and national statutory guidance to:

Assess eligibility for home‑to‑school travel assistance
Coordinate suitable and compliant transport arrangements
Ensure policies are consistently applied across cases
Promote safe travel and support independence
Work confidently with families, schools, social care and other stakeholders

This expertise is essential to ensuring that every pupil travels safely, equitably, and in accordance with statutory duties.

What You'll Bring

Experience working with vulnerable children or adults and understanding their needs
Experience supervising staff and/or managing high‑volume operational services
Strong ability to assess risk and produce high‑quality route risk assessments
Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
Confidence handling challenging situations with professionalism and empathy
Strong IT skills and ability to analyse data and produce reports
Understanding of safeguarding principles and how they apply to commissioned services
Ability to prioritise, multitask, and manage competing deadlines
