Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Laser Systems Engineer to work on the groundbreaking project. This role involves developing the first ever Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) for the Royal Navy. The successful applicant will be joining a dynamic and ambitious team, committed to advancing defence technology.

Dynamic Working

The role allows for a hybrid working model, with the requirement to be on-site for three days per week due to workload classification.

Security Clearance

Applicants must be British citizens or dual UK nationals with British citizenship. Restrictions may apply based on nationality and work rights. Successful applicants will undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks, managed by our client's Personnel Security Team.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

PhD or extensive industry experience in laser technology development at a system level
Deep understanding of laser physics and optics
Strong technical mediation skills
Effective communication abilities at all levels
Excellent relationship-building skills with partners, customers, and team members
A passion for problem-solving and a commitment to high-quality results

Desirable/Advantageous Experience

Experience with high-power laser technology and systems
Requirements analysis, specification, and justification
Systems proving, design assurance, and certification
Experience in developing complex defence systems
Familiarity with system architecting tools (DOORS/DOORS NG/Rhapsody)
